Woman of the day – Lupita Nyong’o 

Celebrating Women's History Month Woman of the Day, Day 1, Lupita Nyong’o

Our first woman of the Month is Lupita Nyong’o born March 1, 1983. Lupita is a Kenyan-Mexican actress who won an Oscar for her film debut in 12 Years a Slave (2013) playing the part of Patsey, a 23yr old slave in American deep South.

Since then, she has featured in numerous films including Star Wars, Black Panther, Queen of Katwe and The Jungle Book and has been the nominated for several other awards including an Emmy Award nomination for Serengeti (2019), a series about wildlife in the Serengeti ecosystem.

She has been very vocal about equality and uses her voice to support initiatives that uplift women and girls around the world.

Her advocacy for women’s issues, especially in the entertainment industry, has brought attention to the challenges women face, including pay disparity and harassment and was part of the Time’s Up anti-harassment initiative.
